The rowing technique commonly known as Voga alla Veneta has ancient origins that originate from the Venetian lagoon’s unique hydrogeological condition. This technique differs from others because the rower stands, facing forward, with the oars resting in the typical oarlocks called fórcole. It is a rowing technique that lets one see where one is going, given that it is necessary to be able to clearly see how the water’s depth when passing through the canals, palùi (swamps), and salt marshes of the lagoon,. The boats that primarily use the Venetian rowing technique are, of course, the gondola but also the sandolo, the mascareta, the caorlina, the pupparino, and the gondolino. All are made from wood and have a flat bottom to navigate seamlessly in the lagoon in just a few centimeters of water. Where other boats have difficulty or are even in danger of running aground, these boats glide elegantly and quietly across the water, driven by the rower’s strength. Due to the fact that the arms legs, ankles and torso are all involved, the sport of rowing and voga alla Veneta is one of the most complete sports. The rowing clubs and associations interested in boating and the marine environment have grown in number in recent years thanks to the change in the rower’s profile and to the increased presence of women and young people participating in this activity.

The Cavallino associations include the Società Canottieri Treporti with its headquarters on the Via San Felice promenade, the Società Remiera Cavallino based at 12 Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta and the Associazione Canoa Republic based at 68 Via Baracca. Among the goals of these associations is to make sure that rowing is enjoyed by all their members, in a serene atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation among friendly, close-knit groups. In addition, the regattas are open to everyone, even those who want, for the first time, to take a spin in a gondola, canoe, or sailboat. Visit their websites for information on initiatives, courses, and day trips:
